Who is the course designed for?
This course is designed for person already working within various retail, wholesale, warehousing construction, farming industries etc. It involves the skills and knowledge required to operate a forklift such as counterbalance, reach forklifts and other ride on type forklifts. This includes selecting appropriate equipment, checking condition of the forklift, manoeuvring the forklift, lifting loads and shutting down the forklift in accordance with all requirements. This course is most often used for refresher training for licenced forklift operators.
01. What does the course offer?
The program has been organised to provide students with general skills, background information and specific knowledge about operating a forklift, which is then applied in discussion, questioning, role-plays and practical application for the industry specific unit. The program is delivered ‘on-the-job’ at the client’s premises. Training delivery combines face-to-face trainer led theory classes and practical sessions. In most cases there will be no more than 8 students in any class. Students are provided with all required course material including a training manual that covers all parts of the course. 02. Course requirements
Due to the duration of this course participants must already be working within industry. This equipment requires a High Risk Work Licence which will be a required pre-requisite (LF class HRW Licence). This course does not provide the High Risk Work licence and is generally used as a refresher training. Student therefore must be qualified and experienced to enter this course. Nil however to join the course an LF class High Risk Work Licence is required (i.e. completion of TLILIC2001 Licence to operate a forklift)

COURSE OUTLINE
- Forklift pre-start is documented and completed prior to commencement of work and relevant to equipment
- Forklift is checked for compliance in accordance with relevant legislation, manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures
- Correct personal protective equipment (PPE) is selected and word relevant to workplace procedures
- Equipment attachments are selected, checked against data plate, secured correctly and appropriate to the task and terrain
- Equipment faults and non-compliances are reported to relevant personnel
- Route is planned in accordance with traffic management plans for the worksite
- Forklift is accessed correctly, using three points of contact, seatbelt is correctly worn and fastened, and mirrors and seats are adjusted for safe operation by driver
- Forklift is started, steered, manoeuvred, positioned and stopped in accordance with regulations, manufacturer instructions and workplace procedures
- Engine power is managed to ensure efficiency and performance and to minimise engine and gear damage
- Operational hazards are identified and/or anticipated and avoided or controlled through defensive driving and appropriate hazard control techniques
- Forklift is driven in reverse, maintaining visibility and achieving accurate positioning
- Lifting task to be undertaken is appropriately planned, and correct lifting truck and attachments are selected
- Load is lifted, carried, lowered and set down in accordance with WHS/OHS legislation, manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures
- Hazards and traffic flow are identified when selecting the most efficient route and appropriate adjustments are made
- Site conditions are assessed to enable safe operations and to ensure no injury to people or damage to property, equipment, loads or facilities occurs
- Performance and efficiency of vehicle operation is monitored during use
- Defective/irregular performance and malfunctions are reported to relevant personnel
- Forklift records are maintained/updated in accordance with workplace procedures and legislative requirements
- Forklift is parked, shut down and secured in accordance with manufacturer specifications, regulations and workplace procedures
- Defective/irregular performance, malfunctions or maintenance are recorded and reported to relevant personnel
- PPE is stored correctly in accordance with workplace procedures
